Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

June in Pictures

June was a wonderful summer month, filled with lots of softball, tennis, and soccer, along with some quick trips to Bumpa and Grandma's house and to California!

Torsten at Daddy's softball game

I'm so thankful with every hit for Erik's shoulder recovery.  God is good!

Doin' the soccer mom thing.

Cherished time with Daddy.
It's been a rough rotation for the doc and these four  munchkins didn't get much time with him this month.

The summer soccer league Skogen played in.

Skogen and his best friend, Grant.

We traveled back to my hometown for a baby shower for one of my best friends from high school.  Stephanie and her husband Shawn were blessed with an adorable little boy named Bodhi.
We were away from Erik on Father's Day, but I gathered some pictures of his fatherhood journey and send him this little gem.  I've loved watching him grow as a father!

The kids made Bumpa a little gift for Father's Day.  Bumpa is a big deer hunter, so this was very appropriate.  :)

I left the boys at Bumpa and Grandma's house and Maida and I went home.  The first night back, our neighbor came over to  watch Maida so that Erik and I could go to the residency graduation.  It was bitter-sweet.  This was the year Erik should have been graduating.  It's good to know that God has worked through this delay in our plans, though.

Maida and I enjoyed a movie together without the boys!

We also had a whole girls' day with our best friends, consisting of shopping, eating too much at Cici's Pizza, pedicures, and dinner at Applebee's.
The next morning, Maida and I flew out to California where we met Erik's family for one of Erik's cousin's wedding.  The first night, we visited the beach.  Maida LOVED it!

The second morning we enjoyed a nice hike through the mountains with lots of  big Red Wood trees!

Jennie and Chris had a 1940's Disney wedding!  My Aunt Becky sent me some accessories to go with my thrift store dress!  It was a beautiful wedding with the ceremony performed by Deda, who has now officiated all of his grandchildren's weddings (including mine and Erik's!).  Karlie and I didn't go to the reception since it was a kid-less wedding and reception, so Brandon brought us back cupcakes and some locally brewed rootbeer from the brewery where the reception was held.
While all the others were at the reception, Karlie and I took the girls swimming at the hotel!

Then the girls took baths, got in their pajamas, and had a slumber party in the hotel living room that connected our bedrooms!  They watched a movie and had popcorn before bed.

On our last day there, we did some sight seeing around San Francisco!

Before picking up the boys from Bumpa and Grandma's, Maida donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love.

On the way home from picking up the boys!  Maida was so happy.  She cried for two days straight after we left them at Bumpa and Grandma's because she missed them so much!

Klaasen was supposed to be doing the dishes.  I ran out of the room for a couple minutes and came back to a flooded kitchen sink.  He looked at me and said, "I decided that I wanted to swim in a swimming pool instead of the do the dishes."  Then while helping me clean it up, he spent some time "ice skating" on the wet kitchen floor.  I enjoyed watching him be a kid.

Spinach from my garden!

The kids made playdough cupcakes for their cousin, Kinley's birthday!  She lives in Oklahoma, so we took a picture and sent it to her!

Poor Klaasen fell asleep in a time out.  He was so tired out from spending a week at Bumpa and Grandma's!

The 5 year old forgot how to poop in the toilet.  Ugh!

The baby decided to get into the hand soap in the bathroom and paint the bathroom walls, floors, and himself with it.
The kids and I were on the Army's float in a city parade!
My cousin, Melody, came up to Minneapolis with her hubby and three kids.  We met them at the Mall of America for a full day of rides!!!  Melody's brother, Michael, his wife, and two kids met us there for the evening, too!
