Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

First Day of School 2011

Maida and Skogen had their first day of preschool last week. It went well! Erik was off of work, so he was able to go with me to drop them off and pick them up. My parents were also in town, so they kept the other two kids while we gave Skogen and Madia extra special alone time with Mommy and Daddy. It was a very special day for all of us.
When we dropped Skogen off at his class, he just stood outside the door. His nose started turning red and I was afraid he would cry, but he didn't. We left and I'm assuming that he eventually went in because when we picked him, he came proudly walking out of his classroom, with his hands in his pockets, and with a small smile on his face. He was able to tell us bits and pieces of his day, but not in much detail. He wasn't extremely excited about school. He just acted like it was no big deal.

When we dropped Maida off, she was happy and excited to be there. Her teacher from last year told me at the end of the year that Maida came to school every day, happy, ready, and anxious to learn. That's exactly how she started this school year, too. She is such a little light and I know she will be a great friend to the other students and a wonderful student for her teacher. When we picked her up, we were walking out of the door and she yelled, "Bye Braxton!" to a boy in her class. Erik and I smiled at each other as we had just had a conversation the day before about she is such an extrovert and social one like her father. :)

It felt so good to finally start this school year. I am confident that we have the kids in the best preschool in the city and I am extremely thankful for the christian basis of their teaching.

I can't wait to see how much they learn and grow this year!

  2. Wait....how many kids do you have? You said your parents took care of the two kids while you spent time with Maida and Skogen. Did I miss one???

  3. Amber, it was sort of confusing to write and really confusing to read! We have have three. We took Skogen and Maida both separately to school while the other two stayed with my parents. :)
