Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

Poor sick little baby!

After 21 days of him suffering, I finally took Klaas into the doctor.
Whenever I bring the kids to the doctor, I have very mixed feelings. On one hand, I want the doctor to say, "It's just a virus. Give it time and they'll be fine," because then it doesn't seem so serious, but on the other hand, I want there to be something treatable so that we can kick it in the butt and get healthy!
Yesterday I went into the doctor expecting Klaas to have a virus, but walked out very surprised to be carrying our new $200 nebulizer (hopefully the insurance will decide to reimburse us!).

Klaasen has a double ear infection and RSV. We are treating him with neb treatments four to six times a day and then amoxicillin for the ear infections. He's a little uneasy with the neb treatments, but Maida does a GREAT job of trying to distract him while I keep his little paws off the mask. With time, I hope that it gets easier.

He's so sweet! After his second neb treatment, some amoxicillin and some tylenol, he pooped out on the floor. I couldn't help but pick him up and cuddle for a while.
Poor sick little baby!
