Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

December 2013, Pre-Christmas

December began with school Christmas concerts!  First was Skogen's.  It gave me so much joy to watch him on stage.  He knew every word and action to every song!  He also got to stand by his best friend, Grant, which gave us plenty of good picture opportunities!

I wish I knew what they were talking about!!!

Maida took her Christmas concert VERY seriously.  She practiced the words to the songs every day.  We also had several meltdowns about what she would wear the night of the concert.  The girls were required to wear a dressy white top, black bottom, and black shoes.  Luckily she settled on an outfit a few hours before the concert and was excited to get dressed up!

Bumpa and Grandma, of course, were there to listen to her sing!

After her Christmas concert, we got hit with a stomach bug.  After being down for a few days, I decided to surprise the kids with an early Christmas present!

Inside each present was a pair of new Christmas pajamas, a Christmas mug, some Christmas candy, a bell, and a Polar Express ticket.

Everyone got into their new pajamas, we had some hot chocolate in the new mugs, and then watched The Polar Express!

Since I didn't have any popcorn for the movie, I made up some quick sugar cookies that were done just in time for a quick game of Christmas memory before bed.

We had such a great family night!  I'm hoping we will make The Polar Express night a new family tradition!

Ever since Maida was a baby, we have been going to see Santa Claus at the mall every Christmas.

With Erik's busy work schedule, we almost didn't make it this year, but fit it in the day before Christmas Eve!  It was so incredibly fun and magical!

Torsten was grunting and pointing at Santa.  He was just a wee bit excited!!!
