Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

Happy Father's Day

Wow- 676 people have read our news so far. We can't tell you how much we've appreciated and loved reading all the email replies and comments on our blog. We love to share this part of our life with you and enjoy all the support and encouragement.

I just wanted to take today to pause and say happy Father's Day to my dad, who has been an amazing support line for me growing up and my best buddy, who was always willing to go play catch with me in the yard, or drive four hours at 6:00 in the morning to Minneapolis to catch a Vikings game on any given Sunday. Thanks for your unconditional love and support. I also want to wish a happy Father's Day to my father-in-law, who is a wonderful father-in-law, always supporting us and always happy for everything we do. He's really been a great influence on Erik in many different ways. Thank you for all you do! Lastly, I'd like to say happy Father's Day to Erik, who is a better father to my babies than I could have ever dreamed of having. He's an amazing dad who never thinks twice about sacrificing for his family, and especially for his little princess Maida. He's so LOVING, CARING, and such a GREAT EXAMPLE for everyone. Thank you, Erik. We love you!!

Today in Sunday School Maida made Erik a picture for Father's Day. She was very excited to give it to him and Erik was really touched by it. It is a picture of Maida's foot prints in blue on each side of a poem. I don't think Erik has read the poem all the way through yet because every time he tries, he cries. He's such a sweet spirited guy. I love you so much, Erik! Here's the poem...

"WALK A LITTLE SLOWER DADDY,"
SAID THE CHILD SO SMALL.
"I'M FOLLOWING IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS
AND I DON'T WANT TO FALL."
SOMETIMES YOUR STEPS ARE VERY FAST,
SOMTIMES THEY ARE HARD TO SEE,
SO WALK A LITTLE SLOWER, DADDY,
FOR YOU ARE LEADING ME.
SOMEDAY WHEN I'M ALL GROWN UP,
YOU'RE WHAT I'LL WANT TO BE;
THEN I WILL HAVE A LITTLE CHILD
WHO'LL FOLLOW ME.
AND I WOULD WANT TO LEAD JUST RIGHT
AND KNOW THAT I WAS TRUE
SO WALK A LITTLE SLOWER, DADDY,
FOR I AM FOLLOWING YOU.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

I hope that all of you fathers out there have had a great Father's Day! There are so many "father figures" that Erik and I have had in our lives over the years and we couldn't even begin to thank you for what you've done for us. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
