Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

Maida's First Blog Post - Her Big Announcement

Welcome to our new website! We thought it was only right that we change sites from "scharrerbaby" to a more appropriate title when Maida made her big announcement...

Rumors are true! We're having another baby! Number two will make a debut in late January, if everything goes as planned. We were so excited to share this news with you that we just couldn't hold it in any longer even though we're only about eight weeks along. Feel free to make comments on this post, then not only will we know who's heard the good news, it will also be fun to look back and read what you all have written.

Thanks for sharing in our joy. We're praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy bundle of joy at the end.

  1. Congratulations! You make my second friend with a due date of Jan. 21. One of these days Kade will have a little brother or sister!! I'm trying to graduate college before number 2. But that's only 6 months away, and then we'll see what God has in store for our family!

On another note...Kade did not get sick after eating the Vaseline, thank goodness! It just made for a funny story.

  3. I know I already told you congrats but congrats again. You will love having two. They don't get as bored. Enjoy your time now with just Maida-- the baby tends to be very consuming when they come! :-)
I love your new site too!

congraaaaaats mama! I'm looking forward to reading how everything goes, although Maida is so smart she acts like she's practically two years old! it's so cute. so I doubt it'll be like having two teeny ones when this baby arrives (which is what I worry about if we were to have another one now too!). anyway, congrats and hope you're feeling good! (not sicky, boo)

    Erik, Kara, Maida, and Barkley,

Great news! Melanie and I miss you kids. Glad to hear life is good. Also, did not know Maida's middle name was Raine. Saw it several years ago - archaic English name - and absolutely think it is one of the most beautiful names out there!

Thanks for keeping us on your list, and call / write if we can ever help you in any way.

    God's blessing to you.

  18. Yes!!! Slowly...one by one...Scharrer's are taking over the world!!! Just wait until Karlie and I get started...! My hope is that you guys have 4 more kids and they are all girls...mainly because I think it would be funny to see Erik with all girls but also because the thought of Erik influencing a little boy scares me. Love you guys!!!
