Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

Unit Picnic

Two weekends ago, during Erik's drill weekend, his unit had a picnic for the soldiers and their families. It was fun to meet the people that Erik spends his drill weekends with and it was nice not to have to be away from Erik for the whole weekend! The weather was perfect for a fall picnic.

They had a ton of food for us to eat!

After we ate, they set up a kids' table with coloring books and markers, model airplane kits, and t-shirt painting. Maida and Skogen colored a coloring book and painted t-shirts. They were having so much fun that Maida went potty in her pants because she didn't want to leave the fun kids' table to go to the bathroom. Luckily I had a change of clothes for her in the car.

The unit had a ton of games in the afternoon. There was a huge field at the park where they had toilet bowl races and a pie smashing contest. I couldn't believe how big his unit was, especially with all the families there, too. We filled the entire park!

Skogen and Maida thought it was fun to watch people get pies smashed on their face. I was worried that they might try to recreate this event at the dinner table, but so far there hasn't been any food throwing or smashing on each other. :)

Skogen fell asleep during the pie smashing contest. He was so pooped out that he just couldn't keep his eyes open any longer. He enjoyed a nice nap under a big shady tree. I was really wishing that I could join him there!

Klaasen had so much fun at his first picnic! He spent most of the time watching his brother and sister run around, but took a few naps and ate, too.

After we got home, the neighbor boy came over and helped Maida and Skogen finish painting their t-shirts. It was a great evening activity after a nice afternoon.
