Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

Halloween 2009

Our Halloween weekend started on Friday night when we joined some friends from church for a little Halloween party. We had pizza, did a few crafts, and then the kids played and played. It was so much fun!
Maida made a "yellow skelptum" picture.
The kids also made trick-or-treats for the birds, which consisted of fruit loop chains and a peanut butter bird seed covered pine cone for the birds to munch on. Wendy is so creative!
The kids all came in costumes, but we didn't try to take a group picture until the end of the night when some of them had taken them off. It was a challenge getting them all to look and smile!
This is the first time that Skogen actually let his sister hold him and enjoyed it! They were so cute!
Wendy made these little treat bags for all of the kids, full of candy, bubbles, pencils, and other treats. Maida loved looking through hers on the way home! Thank you for the party, Wendy, Kent, Jake, and Trey!!!!

Halloween night Maida decided that she was NOT going to go trick-or-treating. She hid under the table and wouldn't get her costume on. (She is like this often - she doesn't like to try new things.) So, I made a deal with her. We could put on her costume and she had to go to three houses. If she didn't like it after three houses, she could come home. Well, we went to three houses... times four! And had to bribe her to come home! She couldn't get enough of it.

Maida and Skogen (9 months old)
Poor Skogen had a fever of 101.5 and was so out of it, but he really enjoyed watching his sister run from house to house.
I'll never forget how Maida wanted to pull Skogen in the wagon to each house. It was soooooo cute! I wish that we would have taken a video of it. I'll also never forget how Maida could pick out the houses we should stop at based on if they had their lights on or not, and she would ring the door bell and knock on the door, while saying, "Knock knock!" and then she would say, "Trick or treat???" like she was asking a question! So funny! When she would say "thank you," she would also sign it, too.
Barkley! came with us, too!
When we got home, they both enjoyed going through the candy. Skogen enjoyed a sucker while Maida pigged out on several things she'd never had before!

Erik took a video of Maida trick-or-treating and I thought I'd post it in case you remembered last year when all she could say was, "Tu-tu," for "Trick-or-treat." What a difference a year makes!!
