Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

Thanksgiving Day

We started Thanksgiving Day off with the Macy's Day Parade on TV. It was a great morning of relaxing together as a family. After Skogen went down for his morning nap, Nana took Maida to the park, and Karlie and I were able to sit around in our pajamas and get some extra relaxing in while the boys ran to the store for last minute items. After lunch, the girls started on the Thanksgiving meal while Papa went to pick up Grandma Viola, and Erik and Brandon went for a run.

The food came together nicely with all of Karlie and Nana's help. I could never have done the meal by myself!

Maida spent some time with Uncle Brandon after his run while they were waiting for the food to cook.

And Skogie snuggled with Daddy after his nap.

After the boys changed out of their running clothes and we took some family pictures, the food was done, so Erik did the honors of cutting the turkey for us.

Here is a group picture of all of us eating our Thanksgiving meal (minus Skogen who was sitting in the highchair behind me).

This is my first helping of food! I had several more after this. It was soooooooooooooooo good!!!

Skogen helped Uncle Brandon clear his plate.

The boys watched a little bit of football after our meal while the girls cleaned up the kitchen.

Then we played games for the remainder of the evening.

We finished off the night with some sparkling grape juice!

This was one of my most favorite Thanksgivings ever! I enjoyed the smaller group and not having to share my in-law family with anyone else. I also enjoyed the cooking and learning some new tips and recipes from Karlie and Carol. I also enjoyed hosting everyone at our new house. It was easy not to have to transport the kids anywhere and to be able to try and keep them on their same routines by being at home.

Thank you to Carol, Mike, Brandon, Karlie, and Kyper who made the trip up here from Oklahoma!!! We are so thankful for you guys and loved spending the holiday with you.
