Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

A Precious Goodnight

Tonight I witnessed the most precious thing ever shared between Maida and Skogen...
We had put the kids to bed around 10:00 tonight. Neither one of them were falling asleep very quickly, even though both of them were super tired! Maida was too busy worrying about the people upstairs (by the way, we don't have an upstairs - ha!) and Skogen was too busy practicing his all-four's rock. After going in there and tucking them in about five more times since the initial "goodnight," I finally decided that Skogen was the culprit who was keeping Maida up (they share a room). So, I picked him up and he immediately turned toward Maida's bed and leaned in her direction. Not knowing what would happen, because he's never been on Maida's bed before, I laid him beside her.
Over the next ten minutes, Maida ran her fingers through Skogen's hair, rubbed his cheeks and forehead lightly with her fingernails, and every time he'd pick up his head, she'd say, "You go to sleep now," and push his head back onto the pillow. Soon Skogen's eyes were tired and slowly he went to sleep.
Precious.
