Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

Halloween Costumes 2011

If you hear me announce next year that I am making Halloween costumes for the kids, please do NOT let me do it! The kids knew exactly what they wanted to be for Halloween this year, but I couldn't find costumes for cheaper than $40 a piece, so I decided that I could make them. I thought, "How hard could this be?"

I also decided that since I couldn't find a pattern at the material store, I would make my own. Ha! Well, 49.5 hours later of planning, drawing, cutting, pinning, sewing, seam ripping, re-sewing, prying kids' fingers off of sewing machine, hemming, putting in elastic, picking up hundreds of pins Klaasen dumped on the floor (twice!), gluing, saving Maida from Skogen cutting her hair with sewing scissors, and stuffing, and I am only half way done with these costumes. I am so ready to be done!

Any guesses on what they are going to be?

Hmm... I am going to guess Mr./Mrs. Potato Head. Good luck finishing your projects. Very ambitious of you!
