Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

New Years Eve

On New Years Eve, Erik surprised us by getting off of work early and then took us out to dinner!  We tried several resaurants, but most places weren't taking reservations, and had an hour and a half wait to get in.  So, we ended up going to Granite City, which was only a 20 minute wait!  The food was GREAT!  We pigged out and didn't even have any leftovers.

Maida in her New Years Eve outfit, which she picked out herself:

And she insisted on wearing these shoes!  However, we battled with her to wear boots since it was waaaaay below zero out and we didn't want any frost bit toes!

She finally agreed and put her boots on.

Maida and Daddy having fun at the restaurant!

Skogen took a picture of me with food in my teeth!

Here is our little man pigging out!  It is so nice for him to be able to feed himself, now!

Since the kids had a late nap on the way to the restaurant, we let them stay up and watch the ball drop.  Maida thought that was pretty cool!  Then we all slept in until 10:15 the next morning.  It was GREAT!

  1. Sounds like you all had a great New Year's Eve. Your kids are getting so big, I can't believe it. You guys need to come and visit :)
