Welcome to the Scharrer family's real life story! Most of our story is written for, and about, our four kids and the spice they add to our lives. It's our story of happiness, craziness, and sometimes ridiculousness. We've journaled through childbirth, the terrible two's, private school (and our public school experience), an autism diagnosis, medical school, residency, and long-term mission work in Africa.

Now we're following a new adventure, which involves a 45 foot motorcoach, homeschool, and as many ski slopes as we can go down in one year.

For posts from while we were living in Zimbabwe and updates about our future plans in Zimbabwe, please see our mission blog...

In the hospital!

Hi, this is Erik. I'm nearly inept at blogging, but here's a feeble attempt...

We're having a baby today!!! We're at St. Luke's hospital in room 661 and we're just waiting for the nurse to come bring us to the OR. Kara hasn't had anything to eat or drink since 7:00am and she reminds me that this is a long bout of anorexia for a gravid woman! She is a bit nervous about the surgery and she's still trying to grasp the fact that we'll be holding Skogen in just a few hours since she's bypassing the labor and says that this doesn't feel "real" - "it's like we're going to check into a hotel instead of going to the hospital to have a baby."
